AEAI Summer 2012 Art Retreat at St. Mary's of the Woods College

In July, District 7 Co-Reps, Trish and Kevin, presented an encaustic workshop to the art teachers gathered at St. Mary's of the Woods College for the annual Art Teachers Retreat.  Members learned about mixing their own colors with the hot wax.   Trish and Kevin taught how to layer and fuse materials to the surface, incise and add color, add textures and many other techniques.

Here are a couple of works that were created in the workshop.

2012 District 7 Summer Workshop

District 7 members gathered for a jewelry making workshop.  Middle School Art Teacher, Michelle Chastain brought her glass fusing kiln and taught us about making glass fused pendants.  Members selected a mold, colored glass frit and learned mixing colors using the colored glass.

Michelle also shared a fun lesson inspired by Dale Chihuly using elmers glue gel, markers, and wire to make glue bowl forms.  She came prepared with folder for all participants to take home with them that included information about glass fusing and making  glue bowls.

Soldering the edges of the collaged glass pendants

Kevin Schultz, District 7 Co-Rep and High School Art Teacher, taught members how to make collaged glass pendant using photo images, collaged papers, glass slides, copper tape, and silver solder.  Here are a few of the pendants that were made at the workshop.
